This time on House Hunters International, a Canadian family – parents and a tween daughter – are trading the Great White North for the sun-drenched beaches of Playas del Coco, Costa Rica. They want big spaces and dazzling views, but paradise comes at a price, as they are quickly discovering.
The central tension: will the family’s budget match their “Pura Vida” dreams? This sort of sums up the entire House Hunters franchise. They are coming with expectations, then get a hard look at reality, and, eventually, end up compromising in the name of getting the show made. It’s escapist TV with a side of real-world financial anxiety.
The dynamic within the family as they face the realities of their budget will resonate with those of us stuck in small apartments in far less scenic locations.
