Fire, family, and fixer-uppers: This Sunday night’s “House Hunters” offers a slightly more dramatic backdrop than the usual suburban house hunt. A Maryland family of seven, displaced by a house fire, is searching for a new place to call home. But as anyone who’s watched five minutes of this show knows, finding a house that everyone agrees on is tougher than wrangling a pack of rabid squirrels.
The wife, understandably traumatized by the fire, wants a move-in ready haven, a place where they can simply unpack and begin to heal. The husband, ever the optimist (or possibly just delusional), is drawn to fixer-uppers, seeing potential where others see a mountain of drywall dust. This fundamental difference in approach sets the stage for the classic “House Hunters” conflict, with the real estate agent caught in the crossfire.
Will they find a place that satisfies both the wife’s need for stability and the husband’s desire to swing a hammer? Will the kids even get a say? Will there be granite countertops?
“House Hunters” airs Sunday, January 26 at 10:01 PM on HGTV.
