Hugh Laurie is trading the house calls for a jailbreak in his next TV project. Apple TV+ has greenlit “The Wanted Man,” an eight-episode crime drama where Laurie plays a crime syndicate boss looking for revenge after being double-crossed.

Laurie plays Felix Carmichael, the head of a crime group called ‘The Capital.’ The setup is simple enough: he gets betrayed by those close to him and winds up in prison. But Carmichael isn’t one to just sit around and serve time. The series centers on his escape and his mission to hunt down the people who wronged him.

Behind the camera, “The Wanted Man” has some solid TV talent involved. George Kay, the name behind the recent Idris Elba thriller “Hijack” and the hit French series “Lupin,” is creating, writing, and running the show. Jakob Verbruggen, who directed episodes of tense dramas like “The Fall” and “London Spy,” is directing this one.

Laurie is joined by a cast that includes Thandiwe Newton, Fionn Whitehead, Gina McKee, Hazel Doupe, Elliott Heffernan, and Stephen Dillane. That’s a strong group to build a crime story around. The show is being made by New Pictures and Kay’s own company, Observatory Pictures.

Apple TV+ hasn’t given “The Wanted Man” a premiere date yet, but with Laurie leading a revenge plot and Kay at the helm, it’s one to keep an eye on for fans of crime thrillers.
