Hulu and Disney+ have secured Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything, a feature documentary on the pioneering journalist, in a significant production pact involving Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries and ABC News. The film is slated for a U.S. premiere on Hulu Monday, June 23, 2025, with Disney+ handling the international rollout later that year.
The project leverages unprecedented access to ABC News’ archives, including unaired footage, alongside Walters’ own words to chart her monumental career and personal journey. Emmy winner Jackie Jesko (known for her work in investigative journalism) directs the doc, which aims to be the definitive account of Walters’ impact. Imagine Documentaries, hot off its Emmy win for Jim Henson Idea Man, and ABC News are the production shingles.
A heavy-hitting lineup of interviewees will provide insight, featuring Oprah Winfrey, Cindy Adams, Joy Behar, Connie Chung, Andy Cohen, Katie Couric, and Bette Midler, among others who knew and worked alongside Walters. The documentary will explore her trailblazing role in a male-dominated industry and her lasting influence on broadcast journalism.
“ABC News broke new ground by hiring Barbara and putting a woman at the anchor desk which was the exclusive preserve of men,” said David Sloan, senior executive producer at ABC News, underscoring the archival value. Sara Bernstein, president of Imagine Documentaries, noted Walters “transformed the culture’s consumption of celebrity journalism,” highlighting the doc’s broad appeal.
Jesko expressed a desire for the film to allow audiences to “get to know the real Barbara, in all her complexities.”
Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything will bow at the 2025 Tribeca Festival, signaling prestige play ahead of its streaming debut.
