Hulu Releases Trailer for Original Drama Series “Black Cake”

Hulu has unveiled the trailer for its Original drama series, “Black Cake,” based on the best-selling novel by Charmaine Wilkerson. The show is set to premiere on November 1, with three episodes available at launch and new episodes releasing every Wednesday on Hulu.

“Black Cake” is a captivating family drama intertwined with a compelling murder mystery. The series boasts a diverse ensemble cast and takes viewers on a journey across various global locations, including Jamaica, Italy, Scotland, England, and Southern California. The story revolves around Covey, a runaway bride from the late 1960s, who mysteriously disappears into the ocean off the coast of Jamaica, leaving behind unanswered questions about her potential drowning or involvement in her husband’s murder.
In present-day California, Eleanor Bennett, a widow battling cancer, passes away, leaving her estranged children, Byron and Benny, a flash drive containing untold stories of her journey from the Caribbean to America. These narratives, narrated by Eleanor herself, shock the Bennett siblings and challenge their understanding of their family’s origins.
The series stars Mia Isaac, Adrienne Warren, Chipo Chung, Ashley Thomas, Lashay Anderson, Faith Alabi, and Glynn Turman, with recurring guest appearances by Ahmed Eljah, Simon Wan, and Sonita Henry.
“Black Cake” is adapted from Charmaine Wilkerson’s best-selling novel and is helmed by showrunner and executive producer Marissa Jo Cerar. The show is executive produced by Oprah Winfrey, Aaron Kaplan, Carla Gardini, Brian Morewitz, Charmaine Wilkerson, and Michael Lohmann. Production of “Black Cake” is a collaboration between Two Drifters, Harpo Films, ABC Signature, and Kapital Entertainment.
