Hulu has provided a first look at its forthcoming UK Original series, “A Thousand Blows.” This drama is set in the dangerous world of illegal boxing in Victorian London during the 1880s. The series is created by Steven Knight, the celebrated creator of the global hit “Peaky Blinders.”
“A Thousand Blows” will be available on streaming platforms in 2025. In the UK and Ireland, it will be shown on Disney+, while Hulu will broadcast it in the US. Other countries will also have access to the show on Disney+.
The series stars BAFTA award-winning actor Malachi Kirby as Hezekiah Moscow, a Jamaican who becomes entangled in the criminal underbelly of post-industrial revolution London’s East End. He meets Mary Carr, played by Erin Doherty, the leader of The Forty Elephants, an infamous all-female London gang. As Hezekiah refines his boxing abilities, he develops a fierce rivalry with veteran fighter Sugar Goodson, portrayed by Stephen Graham, which extends far beyond the boxing ring.
The cast also includes Francis Lovehall, Jason Tobin, James Nelson-Joyce, Hannah Walters, Darci Shaw, Nadia Albina, Morgan Hilaire, Jemma Carlton, Caoilfhionn Dunne, Susan Lynch, Daniel Mays, Adam Nagaitis, Gary Lewis, Tom Davis, and Robert Glenister.
Tinge Krishnan and Nick Murphy direct the series, with Ashley Walters and Coky Giedroyc serving as executive producers, alongside Knight and Graham. Knight leads a writing team that includes Ameir Brown, Insook Chappell, Harlan Davies, and Yasmin Joseph.
“A Thousand Blows” is created, written, and executive-produced by Steven Knight. It stars Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters, who also executive-produce through their company, Matriarch Productions. The series is also executive-produced by Damian Keogh, Kate Lewis, Tom Miller, and Sam Myer. Professor David Olusoga is an additional executive producer, and Tom Miller serves as series producer. Lee Mason, Director of Scripted Content for Disney+, is also an executive producer.
