PBS has announced the return of the Emmy-nominated docuseries “Human Footprint” for a second season, premiering Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. ET. Biologist Shane Campbell-Staton, Ph.D., once again guides viewers on a global expedition, examining the intricate and often contradictory ways humans shape the planet and interact with its diverse inhabitants.
Across six episodes, Campbell-Staton traverses continents—from the bustling cities of Asia to the remote landscapes of Africa, the industrial centers of Europe, and the vibrant ecosystems of the Americas—to paint a comprehensive picture of humanity’s mark on Earth. His conversations with farmers, scientists, journalists, and business owners illuminate the far-reaching consequences of our actions, both intended and unintended.
Season 2 tackles a range of timely and thought-provoking topics. “Shelf Life” examines the global food chain, while “The Enemy of My Enemy” explores the often surprising alliances humans forge with other species. “The Honey Trap” delves into the crucial role of bee populations, and “Dressed to Kill” exposes the fashion industry’s substantial environmental footprint. “Dammed If You Do” investigates our attempts to control water resources, and “Vanishing Act” focuses on species teetering on the brink of extinction.
Complementing the broadcast series, a digital companion web series will offer bonus content and behind-the-scenes glimpses into the making of “Human Footprint” on PBS Terra’s YouTube channel. Diana El-Osta, Senior Director at PBS, describes the series as “a tapestry of stories that connect us all,” highlighting its universal appeal.
