The 1966 disappearance of the Beaumont children from Glenelg Beach in Adelaide is one of those unshakeable mysteries, a dark cloud hanging over Australian history. Channel 7’s new true crime series, The Hunters, aims to take a fresh look at this infamous case in its premiere episode, airing Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 8:40 pm.
The series pairs crime journalist Adam Shand with ex-cop Steve Van Aperen, a duo tasked with revisiting high-profile Australian cold cases. And they’re starting with a doozy. The Beaumont children—Jane, Arnna, and Grant—vanished without a trace on Australia Day, triggering what was then South Australia’s most extensive search and rescue operation. Decades later, the case continues to generate speculation and heartbreak.
Shand and Van Aperen retrace the children’s last known movements, pore over existing evidence, and unearth new leads, all in an attempt to finally bring some clarity to this decades-old tragedy. Their investigation brings them into contact with a host of figures familiar with the case, including Stuart Mullins, Bill Hayes, Frank Pangallo, Graham Archer, Ken Sellick, and Deb Bennett.
The series features former South Australia Supreme Court Justice John Sulan, who will offer a new perspective on the collected evidence.
The Hunters airs on Channel 7 and 7plus, Sunday, February 23, 2025, at 8:40 pm.
