NBC’s The Hunting Party continues its foray into the dark side of human nature with “Doctor Ezekiel Malak,” the fourth episode of its freshman season. This time, Bex and her team are on the trail of a psychiatrist-turned-predator, Dr. Ezekiel Malak, who’s turning the streets of Chicago into his own twisted hunting ground.
The series, which centers on a specialized team tasked with re-apprehending escaped serial killers, has quickly established a knack for creating chillingly realistic scenarios. Bex, a former profiler pulled back into the field after a catastrophic prison explosion, leads the charge. Her team’s pursuit of Malak looks to be a particularly unsettling case, given the killer’s professional background. One imagines his understanding of the human psyche gives him a disturbing edge in this deadly game of cat and mouse.
“Doctor Ezekiel Malak” finds the team racing against time to decipher Malak’s pattern of behavior before he claims another victim.
The Hunting Party skillfully blends crime procedural elements with suspenseful storytelling, offering viewers a glimpse into the minds of both hunters and the hunted. Whether the show can maintain this momentum throughout its first season is still up in the air, but “Doctor Ezekiel Malak” certainly has the ingredients for a gripping hour of television.
The Hunting Party airs Mondays at 10 PM ET on NBC.
