Netflix is adding a new documentary to its slate, one that steps into the world of royal charity with a familiar face leading the way. The streaming giant has ordered an untitled film looking at the fifty-year history and influence of The King’s Trust, with actor Idris Elba joining King Charles III for the project. The documentary is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix in Autumn 2026.
Elba’s involvement goes beyond narration; he is a former beneficiary of the Trust himself. Years ago, as he worked to kickstart his acting ambition, the (then) Prince’s Trust supplied him with crucial financial aid. This personal connection will give the documentary a unique viewpoint, as Elba will accompany King Charles, taking an insider’s look at the organisation’s work.
The film aims to highlight the potential that arises when young people are given a chance. Jonathan Townsend, UK Chief Executive of The King’s Trust, mentioned the project centres on the power of believing in young people. The Trust has supported over 1.3 million young people across more than 20 countries, making a global impact over five decades. The documentary will give a thorough look at King Charles’ sustained support for the Trust since its start.
