Investigation Discovery has announced a new four-part docuseries, “Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter,” premiering on May 27 and 28, 2024. The series will look into the lives and controversies surrounding the Carter brothers, including sexual assault allegations against Nick Carter and Aaron Carter’s struggles with mental health and substance abuse.
Nick Carter, a member of the Backstreet Boys, has been accused of sexual assault and rape by three women: Melissa Schuman, Ashley Repp, and Shannon “Shay” Ruth. Schuman, a former member of the girl group Dream, first made her allegations public in 2017, claiming that Carter assaulted her in 2002. Repp and Ruth came forward with their own accusations in 2022, with Ruth filing a lawsuit against Carter. Carter has denied all allegations and filed a countersuit against his accusers for defamation.
Aaron Carter, who gained fame as a singer and TV personality, struggled with mental health issues and substance abuse in the years leading up to his death in November 2022. The docuseries will explore the rift that developed between the brothers when Aaron publicly supported Nick’s accusers. It will also include interviews with a member of the Carter family, as well as Nick’s ex-girlfriend Kaya Jones and Aaron’s former fiancée Melanie Martin.
“Fallen Idols” will not only focus on the allegations but also examine the intense backlash faced by Nick’s accusers after they spoke out. The series will provide a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those who come forward with accusations against celebrities and pop culture icons.
“Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter” is produced by Ish Entertainment for Investigation Discovery. It follows the network’s successful series “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” which explored the toxic work conditions for child stars on Nickelodeon shows. With its timely subject matter and focus on a high-profile celebrity family, “Fallen Idols” is expected to generate significant interest and engagement from viewers.
