The Crime & Investigation network presents a new episode of Imperfect Murder, titled Poole, airing on Monday, 10 June 2024. The episode explores the tragic murder of 21-year-old Tiara Poole, a young mother of two, whose life was brutally taken by David Sparre, leading to his arrest, conviction, and death sentence.
In July 2010, Tiara Poole was found stabbed to death in her Jacksonville, Florida apartment. Her body was discovered four days after the murder, with the weapon’s tip still lodged in her skull. The investigation led to the arrest of 20-year-old David Kelsey Sparre, a resident of Waynesville, Georgia. Sparre had connected with Poole through a personal ad on Craigslist and went on a date with her while her husband was away serving in the Navy.
Initially denying the murder, Sparre later confessed, citing his discovery of Poole’s identity as a Navy wife and mother as his motive. He was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. However, Sparre’s defense team intended to introduce evidence of his mental health issues, drug and alcohol abuse, and the appeal lawyers argued that the trial judge should have mandated the jury to hear about Sparre’s mental competency.
Adding an unsettling dimension to the case, Sparre, in a letter to his ex-girlfriend, claimed to have planned the murder a week in advance and expressed his enjoyment of the act, even revealing a previous shooting and killing as part of gang initiation.
