Impractical Jokers’ New Season: Pranks, Bagels, and… John Silver?

Impractical Jokers

After weathering the storm of Joe Gatto’s departure, the remaining Impractical Jokers’ trio — Brian “Q” Quinn, James “Murr” Murray, and Sal Vulcano — are back for another season of, well, impractical jokes. Premiering Thursday, January 9, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TBS, the new episodes find them tackling the indignities of posing as concierges, grocery cart thieves, and, in what may be the most harrowing scenario of all, mall janitors.

Yes, the premise remains essentially unchanged. The guys still subject each other to mortifying public scenarios, with punishments meted out for the inevitable failures. This time, though, they’re joined by a motley crew of celebrity guests, a strategy employed with increasing frequency since the group shrunk to three. This season features appearances by Richard Kind — dispensing acting lessons in a bagel shop, no less — TikTok star Jax, AEW wrestler John Silver (yes, really), “Saturday Night Live”‘s Colin Jost, and Peloton instructor Ally Love.

One has to wonder if this eclectic guest list speaks to the Jokers’ enduring appeal, or maybe more to their increasingly desperate attempts to keep things fresh. The core dynamic of three friends riffing off each other has always been the show’s strength, and while guest stars can provide a momentary spark, they risk diluting the very essence of what makes the show work.
