In this edition of In My Own Words, best-selling novelist and journalist Jilly Cooper reflects on her life and career. The programme, airing on BBC One on Monday, 30 September 2024, at 10:40 pm, takes us into Cooper’s world as she shares memories from her childhood in Yorkshire and her early career in journalism and publishing during the 1950s and 1960s.

Now 87 years old, Cooper revisits the home in south-west London that she left 42 years ago. She lived there with her late husband, Leo, and their children. Cooper opens up about her married life and her attitude towards sex. She also discusses the move to the Cotswolds and the success of her 1985 novel, Riders, which marked a turning point in her literary career.
