Irish Crime Thriller North Sea Connection To Air on BBC Four This February
North Sea Connection, an Irish criminal drama, has been acquired by the BBC and will premiere on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer in February.
The six-part series is written by Mark Greig (Marcella, Bulletproof), and it tells the story of a dysfunctional Irish family against the backdrop of the country’s dramatic scenery.
Ciara Kenny (Lydia McGuinness) continues the family tradition of fishing in the seas off Roskillane. The trajectory of her family’s life was altered irrevocably when her ambitious brother Aidan (Kerr Logan) covertly agreed to carry out a cocaine run at sea for a Nordic gang that went catastrophically wrong. How far are they willing to go to protect their loved ones from the impending exposure of family secrets as the probe heats up?
North Sea Connection stars Lydia McGuinness (Her Name Is, Wild Mountain Thyme), Kerr Logan (Game Of Thrones, Showtrial), Sinéad Cusack (V For Vendetta, Eastern Promises), Claes Ljungmark (The Keeper Of Lost Causes, Arne Dahl), Dónall Ó Héalai (Arracht, Foscadh), Jeanne Nicole Ní Áinle (Bad Sisters, Holy Island), Alida Morberg (Clark, Sensoria) and Natalie Simpson (Outlander, Les Misérables).
“Set amongst the stunning scenery of West Coast Ireland, North Sea Connection is a dark and brooding thriller which will keep BBC viewers totally absorbed until the very end,” said Head of BBC Programme Acquisition Sue Deeks.
North Sea Connection (6 x 45’) was acquired for the BBC from A+E Networks International. It was made by Mopar Studios for RTE and Viaplay, is written by Mark Greig, and directed by Hannah Quinn (Vikings: Valhalla, The Stranger) and Paul Murphy (Doctor Who, Cuckoo).
North Sea Connection will launch on BBC Four and iPlayer this February.
