ITV Commissions Thriller Series “Protection” starring Siobhan Finneran & Katherine Kelly

ITV has announced the commissioning of a new thriller series titled Protection, which will feature a star-studded cast including Siobhan Finneran, Nadine Marshall, and Katherine Kelly. The show, created and written by Kris Mrksa, will consist of six episodes and is being produced by New Pictures, known for their critically acclaimed productions such as Des and The Missing. Protection will premiere on ITV1, with streaming available on ITVX.

Siobhan Finneran will portray Detective Inspector Liz Nyles, a police officer who becomes entangled in a personal affair with a colleague and embarks on a mission to uncover corruption within her unit. Nadine Marshall and Katherine Kelly will also have prominent roles in the series, alongside a supporting cast including Barry Ward, Chaneil Kular, David Hayman, Nichola Burley, and Akiya Henry.

The show delves into the intricate and dark world of witness protection, challenging the idealized perception of safeguarding innocent witnesses. Drawing inspiration from the experiences of a seasoned witness protection officer, Protection explores the consequences when the system fails. Liz Nyles finds herself navigating the morally ambiguous realm of witness protection as she seeks the truth and fights to ensure the safety of her witnesses, even when they may not necessarily deserve it. The series follows her journey as she balances her duty as a police officer with her loyalty to her lover and the well-being of her family.

The narrative, crafted by Kris Mrksa, promises to deliver suspenseful twists and turns that will keep viewers guessing about who to trust and who is telling the truth. The series draws inspiration from the real-life experiences of a witness protection specialist who served in the Metropolitan Police for three decades, handling high-profile cases involving war criminals, terrorists, and various criminals.

Protection is executive produced by Willow Grylls, Charlie Hampton, Elaine Pyke, and Kris Mrksa. It is produced by Rebecca Davies and line produced by Tracy Chapman. The series is directed by Simen Alsvik and Sasha Ransome, with the writing credits divided among Kris Mrksa, Polly Buckle, and Giula Sandler.

Filming has commenced in Liverpool, and the series is set to air on ITV and ITVX next year. All3Media International holds exclusive worldwide distribution rights for Protection.
