ITV’s “The Bay” Season 5 Filming Gets Under Way

Filming on the fifth season of The Bay, co-produced by ITV and Tall Story Pictures, has officially begun.

Cast regulars Daniel Ryan, Erin Shanagher, and Andrew Dowbiggin return for the fifth season, joining Marsha Thomason as Morecambe MIU’s Family Liaison Officer, DS Jenn Townsend. The Morecambe squad will also soon be joined by Olwen May (Happy Valley, Trying). Barry Sloane returns as Chris Fischer. Erin, Chris’s daughter, is played by Georgia Scholes, and Conor and Maddie, Jenn’s, are reprised by David Carpenter and Emme Hayes, respectively. Anne Townsend, Jenn’s mum, is played by Suzanne Packer (Casualty, Keeping Faith).

What can we expect from the new season

Hannah, a university student in her early twenties, is discovered dead near the docks in Morecambe, giving the MIU team another case to investigate. Jenn, who is returning to work after her father’s death, puts aside her own sorrow to console Hannah’s feuding family.

As tensions among students grow, Jenn and her team dig deeper into the case, discovering secret friendships and liaisons along the way. While working to solve the case, cope with her own loss, and mend fences with her family, Jenn must also reconcile her personal and professional struggles as the team peels back the complex layers of Hannah’s life and the secrets within it.

Who is making up the guest cast

Joining the new series as guest cast are Leanne Best (The Walk-In, Cold Feet), Neil Maskell (Hijack, Kill List), David Troughton (A Very Peculiar Place, New Tricks), Stephen Wight (Screw, I May Destroy You) and Ceallach Spellman (Better, White Lines). Tara Lynne O’Neill (The Full Monty, Derry Girls) joins as Sinead, as DI Tony Manning’s new partner.

Who is making the series

The Bay is commissioned for ITV by Head of Drama, Polly Hill, and will premiere on ITV1 and be available on streaming platform ITVX.

The Bay is co-created and written by award-winning writer and playwright Daragh Carville, and produced by Tall Story Pictures, part of ITV Studios. Caroline Carver returns to the writing team, and is joined by Evan Placey. The series sees Shaun Evans directing episodes 1-3, with Waris Islam directing 4-6, Martin Campbell will produce.
