Longtime CBS News anchor Jeff Glor has bid farewell to CBS Saturday Morning following a series of layoffs at Paramount Global, CBS’s parent company. Glor, who has been with CBS News since 2007, delivered an emotional final message to the audience, expressing his gratitude to his co-hosts Dana Jacobson and Michelle Miller, as well as the show’s producers and editors. Glor referred to his colleagues as his “on-air family.”
During his final appearance, Glor reflected on his passion for journalism and his love for storytelling. He shared that meeting influential writers and discussing their work had been one of the most rewarding aspects of his career. He concluded his farewell by thanking the audience for their support over the years and hinted at future opportunities, though he did not specify his next career move.
Glor’s career with CBS News spans over 15 years, beginning as a reporter and anchor on CBS Sunday Morning and The Early Show. In December 2017, Glor stepped into the role of anchor for CBS Evening News, a position he held until June 2019, when Norah O’Donnell took over. Shortly after, Glor transitioned to CBS Saturday Morning, beginning his tenure there within the same month.
Jeff Glor’s departure from CBS News is part of a wider round of layoffs at Paramount Global, which has impacted multiple divisions within the company. Glor was one of a number of people laid off as CBS’ parent company made a second round of cuts on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
The layoffs are part of Paramount’s efforts to save $500 million in costs ahead of a merger with Skydance and plans to lay off 15% of its U.S.-based employees.
