Apple TV+ has greenlit a new 10-episode dramedy starring Jennifer Aniston, based on Jennette McCurdy’s bestselling memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died.
The series will see Aniston take on the role of the controlling mother, a key figure in McCurdy’s story, and also executive produce. This marks Aniston’s second major collaboration with Apple following her ongoing lead role in The Morning Show, which returns for Season 4 on Tuesday, September 17.
McCurdy, who stepped back from acting in 2017, will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. She’ll be joined by Ari Katcher, known for Ramy and Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show.
The show tracks the painful and often absurd bond between a young actress and her fame-obsessed mother, shaped by McCurdy’s real-life experiences in the industry. Her memoir, released in August 2022, spent more than 80 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list.
Also on board as executive producers are Sharon Horgan and Stacy Greenberg of Merman, the team behind Bad Sisters and Catastrophe. Horgan’s Bad Sisters remains one of Apple’s most critically successful dramas, winning BAFTA awards for Best Drama Series and Supporting Actress.
The producing team includes Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara of LuckyChap, as well as Jerrod Carmichael and Erica Kay, whose recent credits include Pose, Dead Ringers, and Fosse/Verdon.
There is no confirmed airdate yet, but this latest commission continues Apple’s focus on character-driven dramas anchored in personal trauma, high-profile talent, and prestige production teams.
