Jeopardy! Friday June 21, 2024, Recap, Winner and Final Answer

Who Won Jeopardy! and Final Answer

Contestants on the Friday June 21 episode of Jeopardy! were Josh Heit, a government relations professional from Silver Spring, Maryland; Richelle Brown, a substitute teacher from Alexandria, Virginia; and Drew Basile, a graduate student from Birmingham, Michigan. Drew entered the game as a two-day champion with total winnings of $33,282.

The first round featured the following categories: ‘WHAT A LOVELY SMILE!’, ‘FICTIONAL CHARACTERS’, ‘ON THE MAP’, ‘MULTIPLE MEANINGS’, ‘ICONS ON STAMPS’, and ‘THAT COMPANY’S HISTORY’. During this round, Josh encountered the first Daily Double, valued at $1,000, in the category ‘THAT COMPANY’S HISTORY’. Unfortunately, Josh dropped $3,400 on a true Daily Double question. Heading into the first break, the scores stood at Drew with $2,800, Richelle with $800, and Josh with $2,600.

As the game progressed into Double Jeopardy!, new categories emerged: ‘WHAT A LOVELY MILE!’, ‘GENRES’, ‘DID YOU GET MY LETTER?’, ‘THE HUMAN BODY’, ‘ABDICATIONS’, and ‘ENDS IN DOUBLE “E”‘. Richelle and Drew also had opportunities to capitalize on Daily Doubles. Richelle lost $3,000 on the second Daily Double, a video question worth $1,600 in the category ‘THE HUMAN BODY’. However, Drew added $4,000 to his total score with a successful wager on the third Daily Double, valued at $2,000, in the ‘GENRES’ category.

Drew’s correct response to the Daily Double, coupled with Josh’s strong late rally, set up an intriguing final heading into the Final Jeopardy! round. Drew led with $20,000, followed by Josh with $10,000, and Richelle with $1,000.

The Final Jeopardy! category was ‘SPORTS’, and the clue revolved around a record-breaking announcement by Vin Scully 50 years ago. Both Drew and Josh provided the correct response, “who is Hank Aaron?,” with Josh doubling his score. However, Drew’s strategic wager of zero dollars led to a tiebreaker, in the ‘SCIENCE’ category and the clue was “This phenomenon named for a 19th century man is apparent in moving light sources as well as moving sound sources”
