Another day, another invitational tournament match on Jeopardy!, and this time, the FJ category, “The Ancients Speak,” proved too cryptic for our brainy contestants. Jonathan Fisher, Rachael Schwartz, and Emily Sands all missed the Final Jeopardy! question, leaving the win to Emily, who wisely wagered zero and held onto her lead with 14,000 points.
Going into Final Jeopardy!, Emily held a comfortable lead, but Jonathan wasn’t far behind. The clue, referencing a comparison between the founders of Athens and Rome, seemed to stump everyone. The correct response, Plutarch, was elusive, leading to a triple miss and securing Emily’s victory.
The Double Jeopardy! round saw Emily strategically doubling down on a Daily Double about noble gases, propelling her score upwards. Jonathan also found a Daily Double, correctly identifying Louis XVII as the unfortunate heir who met his demise in prison. Rachael, however, seemed to struggle in the second round, falling behind her competitors.
The Jeopardy! round offered a mix of topics, from authors and music to vocabulary and geography. Rachael started strong, snagging the first Daily Double and correctly identifying The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. But it wasn’t enough to maintain her momentum throughout the game.
While no one claimed the title of ultimate ancient history expert tonight, Emily Sands played a smart game, strategically wagering and capitalizing on Daily Doubles to emerge victorious.
