The Tuesday September 11 episode of Jeopardy! featured a new set of contestants: Will Weiss, a technical program manager from Islip, New York; Mary Catherine French, a writer and editor from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and returning champion Adam Reiffen, a Naval officer from San Diego, California, with previous winnings of $16,001.
The first round categories included “1890s America,” “4 of the Same Consonant,” “Have a Day!,” “Celebrities Who Read Aloud,” “The Mafia,” and “Islands in the Sea.” Adam Reiffen attempted to maintain his momentum from the previous game but faced an early setback, losing $2,000 on the Daily Double in the category “Celebrities Who Read Aloud.”
At the first break, Will Weiss took the lead with $2,800, followed by Mary Catherine French with $1,800, and Adam Reiffen with $400. As the game progressed, the scores entering Double Jeopardy were: Will $5,000, Mary Catherine $5,400, and Adam $3,000.
In Double Jeopardy, the categories covered a range of topics, including “Arlington National Cemetery,” “Uncut Jams,” “Plays & Playwrights,” “Mishmash,” and “Dr. Ken.” Adam’s luck did not improve, as he lost $3,000 on the first Daily Double in the category “Arlington National Cemetery.” Will Weiss, however, seized the opportunity and answered the second Daily Double correctly, further extending his lead.
By the end of Double Jeopardy, Will had secured a substantial lead with $17,000, while Adam and Mary Catherine trailed with $6,600 and $4,600, respectively.
The Final Jeopardy category was “Signs & Symbols,” and the clue required contestants to identify two symbols that were supplemented by a diamond in 2005. Unfortunately, none of the contestants provided the correct response.
Will Weiss, despite a $3,000 wager, emerged as the winner with a final score of $14,000. Adam Reiffen finished in second place with $3,999, and Mary Catherine French ended the game with $1,600.
The correct responses to the Daily Doubles and Final Jeopardy were: “A Christmas Carol,” “11 a.m.,” “Phalanges,” and “Red Cross and Red Crescent,” respectively.
