Jeopardy! Key Art

In tuesday’s episode of Jeopardy! three contestants competed: Gino Montoya, an attorney from Albuquerque, New Mexico; Andrew Miller, an auto claims adjuster from Bristol, Connecticut; and Mark Fitzpatrick, a content manager from Riverside, Connecticut, who entered as a two-day champion with $50,401 in winnings.

The categories for the Jeopardy! round were: OREGON, GET “OUT” OF THE CLUE, SONNETS & SONNETEERS, AUTO MAKIN’ BRANDS, WHAT’S MY MOTIVATION?, and GOING APE AT THE MOVIES. Andrew successfully responded to the Daily Double under AUTO MAKIN’ BRANDS, which involved a question about a car company naming models after Tucson and Santa Fe. He wagered $1,000 and correctly identified Hyundai. However, Mark maintained a steady lead, finishing the first round with $5,400, ahead of Andrew’s $2,000 and Gino’s $1,000.

Double Jeopardy! introduced new categories: PEOPLE OF THE BIBLE, HISTORIC NAMES, 15-LETTER WORDS, THE FRENCH MASTERS, A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS, and 20th CENTURY SONG, 21st CENTURY AD. Mark capitalized on two Daily Doubles during this round. First, he gained an additional $3,000 with a question about a double portrait painted by Eugene Delacroix, answering correctly with George Sand.

Later, he increased his lead again with another Daily Double, adding $3,000 by identifying the word “photojournalism” as part of the subtitle of a young adult nonfiction book. By the end of Double Jeopardy!, Mark had $21,200, ahead of Gino with $17,400, and Andrew trailing at $4,600.

The Final Jeopardy! category was WORLD FLAGS, with the clue referencing the 12 stars on a flag symbolizing perfection, not geographic or political units. None of the contestants answered correctly, missing “What is the European Union?”

Gino’s decision to wager his entire amount cost him the lead, dropping him to third place with $0. Mark, with a more conservative bet, held onto the win with $7,599, securing his third victory and a three-day total of $58,000. Andrew finished second with $4,183.
