In Wednesday’s episode of Jeopardy!, three contestants competed: Colleen Kelly, a self-described “girl-between-gigs” from Melrose, Massachusetts; Robert Franke, a data analyst from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; and Mark Fitzpatrick, a content manager from Riverside, Connecticut, returning as the reigning three-day champion with $58,000 in winnings.
The Jeopardy! round featured categories such as 41, GREEN VEGGIES, WORLD GEOGRAPHY, ALLITERATION, TV COUPLING, and MEDIEVAL NOTABLES. Mark made an early gamble on a Daily Double under ALLITERATION, wagering $2,400 on a question about a Southern California area famous for canyons and passes. Unfortunately, he missed the answer, which was “What is Hollywood Hills?,” and lost his entire wager. Despite this setback, he managed to finish the round with $5,400, while Rob had $2,600 and Colleen struggled with $0.
Double Jeopardy! introduced new categories including 41, ANATOMY, “U” KNOW, PLACE THE BOOK, MISCELLANY, and COLOR FILMS. Mark gained momentum by responding correctly to two consecutive Daily Doubles. First, he added $3,000 in ANATOMY by identifying the pancreas as the organ affected by Type 1 diabetes. Immediately following that, he secured another $4,000 under COLOR FILMS with a question about the 2012 movie Snow White and the Huntsman. These strong plays solidified his lead as he entered Final Jeopardy! with $23,600, far ahead of Rob’s $6,200 and Colleen’s $5,600.
The Final Jeopardy! category was WORD ORIGINS, asking for the word that refers to someone who cuts a trail, derived from an 1840 novel character. None of the contestants provided the correct response of “What is Pathfinder?” Mark, however, had wagered nothing, allowing him to retain his lead and win with $23,600, bringing his four-day total to $81,600. Rob finished second with $6,070, while Colleen ended with $0.
