In the latest episode of Jeopardy!, part of the 2024 Tournament of Champions, three contestants battled it out for a chance to advance further in the competition. The players in this brand new episode were Ike Barinholtz, a producer, writer & actor from Chicago, Illinois; Ben Chan, a philosophy professor from Green Bay, Wisconsin; and Jared Watson, a quality control specialist from Greenville, Texas.
The game kicked off with categories like “Getting Historical,” “Books by Characters,” and “Sports Mascot History.” Jared took an early lead by doubling his score with a correct response about the material world. However, at the first break, both Ben and Jared had accumulated 5,000 points each while Ike trailed behind with only 200 points.
As Double Jeopardy began, the competition intensified with categories such as “Ends in Double Letters,” “Boy Genius,” and “The Tallest One.” It was during this round that Ben seized an opportunity to increase his score significantly when he correctly answered a question about a famous boy genius who buried his grief in math and physics after losing his brother Giulio in 1915. Meanwhile, Jared unfortunately lost all of his hard-earned points on another double-letter category question.
Heading into Final Jeopardy!, Ben held the lead with 15,200 points followed closely by Ike at 10,400 points and Jared trailing behind with only 3,600 points.
For their final challenge of this intriguing episode centered around ancient drama categories, Jared—who found himself wagering everything—Ben avoided making any sizable wagers that could potentially jeopardize his lead. In the end though no one was able to provide the correct response, which was What is “The Persians”? regarding Aeschylus’ earliest surviving work.
Ultimately it was Ben who emerged victorious after securing second place during today’s show—a strong performance that secured him advancement to future rounds.
