Jeopardy! fans were treated to an intense and competitive game in the fourth installment of the 2024 Tournament of Champions finals. The three contestants battling it out were Ben Chan, a philosophy professor from Green Bay, Wisconsin; Troy Meyer, a music executive from Tampa, Florida; and Yogesh Raut, a social and personality psychologist from Vancouver, Washington.
The categories for this game included “That’s So 18th Century,” “Types of Poems,” “Food & Drink,” “On the Web,” “TV Drama,” and “Champ Change.”
Ben took control early on with a successful Daily Double in the category of Types of Poems. He correctly identified that a villanelle is a 19-line poem consisting of 5 tercets and a concluding stanza known as a quatrain. This boosted his score by 1,000 points.
At the first break, Troy held the lead with 6,600 points, followed closely by Yogesh with 3,000 points. Ben trailed behind with just 200 points.
As Double Jeopardy began, both Troy and Ben continued their strong performances. Ben secured another Daily Double in the category of Lost Works and correctly answered that Achilles was the Greek hero who killed Memnon in the lost ancient epic called “Aethiopis.” This impressive move catapulted him to an impressive total of 10,000 points.
Troy also had his chance to shine when he landed on another Daily Double in Making a Pass. With his vast knowledge, he confidently responded that Kasserine Pass was located on the continent of Africa during World War II. Doubling his score to an impressive 28,000 points further solidified his position as a formidable opponent.
Heading into Final Jeopardy!, Troy led with an impressive score of 33,200 points. Yogesh followed closely behind with 20,400 points while Ben had made an impressive comeback with 12,800 points.
The Final Jeopardy category was “Historic Americans,” and the clue revolved around a memorial plaque presented by U.S. Vice Admiral Jerauld Wright near Kirkbean on Solway Firth. Unfortunately, both Troy and Yogesh failed to come up with the correct response – Who Was John Paul Jones?.
Ben, who had expertly played his way back into contention, correctly answered the Final Jeopardy question. With a final score of 25,600 points, Ben emerged as the winner of this intense match by a mere one point over Troy’s 25,599 points.
With two victories under his belt in the finals, Ben now takes the lead heading into the next stage of competition. However, both Troy and Yogesh have shown their mettle throughout this thrilling Tournament of Champions.
Jeopardy! fans eagerly anticipate what further surprises await them in this exciting battle of knowledge and wit.
