Jeopardy! welcomed three new contestants to the stage on Tuesday April 30: Laura Bligh, a webmaster from Vienna, Virginia; Bryan Carrasco, a mortgage loan originator from Columbia, Missouri; and Amy Hummel, an ER doctor and four-day champion from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with total winnings of $85,794.
The game began with a diverse range of categories, including “A Gap on Their Résumés,” “Questionable Song Titles,” “Ends with ‘K’,” “State Mammals,” “Giving Some Direction,” and “Cookies, My Favorite!” Bryan added $1,000 to his score with a true Daily Double in the “State Mammals” category, identifying the longhorn as Texas’ official large mammal. At the first break, Amy led with $3,200, followed closely by Bryan with $2,000 and Laura with $3,000.
Entering Double Jeopardy!, the contestants prepared for new categories: “The Gap on Their Résumés,” “Around the World,” “Blank Verse,” “5-Syllable Words,” “African Leaders,” and “Law Slaw.” Bryan, who had regained the lead, took a significant risk on the first Daily Double, wagering all of his earnings and unfortunately dropping to $0. Amy and Laura now led with $6,800 and $4,800, respectively. Bryan made a surprising comeback with the last Daily Double, a correct response that added $1,200 to his score.
The game took an intriguing turn as Bryan’s aggressive strategy on the second Daily Double left him in third place with $3,200, while Amy and Laura tied for first with $7,600 each. A crucial mistake by Laura on the last clue of Double Jeopardy! gave Amy a slight advantage.
The Final Jeopardy! category, “Fictional Groups,” proved to be a challenging one. Only Amy answered correctly, identifying the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and doubling her score to $15,200. Laura’s wager of $0 secured her second place, while Bryan finished with $6,398.
With her impressive performance, Amy extended her winning streak to five days and accumulated total winnings of $100,994.
