Jeopardy! Tuesday July 9, 2024, Recap, Winner and Final Answer

Today’s contestants were Kathy Davis, a chemistry professor from North Manchester, Indiana; Anna Paone, a stay-at-home mom from Sunnyside, New York; and Isaac Hirsch, a four-day champion and customer support team lead from Burbank, California, with total winnings of $100,586.

The Jeopardy! round featured the categories CRIME HISTORY, A NOVEL INTRODUCTION, STOCK TICKER TALK, TSA YEA OR NAY, BIG BANDS, and MOMENT of “ZEN.” Isaac started strong, choosing the first Daily Double and adding $1,000 to his score by identifying Albert Camus’ “The Stranger” from its famous opening line. At the first break, the scores were close, with Isaac at $400, Anna at $400, and Kathy leading with $3,800.

Entering Double Jeopardy!, the scores were Isaac $4,200, Anna $2,600, and Kathy $3,800. The categories in this round were ANCIENT CONTEMPORARIES, WORLD CAPITAL ATTRACTIONS, THE HUMAN BODY, A SHAPELY CATEGORY, SOUNDS LIKE THE MOVIE’S SEQUEL, and 11-LETTER WORDS. Anna chose the second Daily Double, wagering $2,000 and correctly identifying “The Sting” as the sequel-sounding title. Isaac extended his lead with the third Daily Double, adding $4,000 to his score by answering with Ptolemy, an Egyptian astronomer.

After a series of scoring corrections, Isaac pulled ahead, entering Final Jeopardy! with $19,400. Anna trailed with $9,800, and Kathy had $3,800. The category for Final Jeopardy! was LITERATURE. The clue: “In one story, he is enslaved by the old man of the sea and uses apes to pick fruit so he can afford his fare back to Baghdad.” Isaac was the only contestant to respond correctly, identifying “Who is Sinbad?”, and adding $201 to his total. Anna’s wager of $1,201 meant she would have lost even if she had answered correctly.

Isaac Hirsch emerged as the winner with a final score of $19,601, bringing his five-day total to an impressive $120,186. Anna finished second with $8,599, and Kathy came in third with $3,800.
