Jeopardy! Wednesday May 7 Recap: Dan Moren’s Smart Wager Secures Victory

Jeopardy! Ken Jennings

Wednesday’s “Jeopardy!” match served up a healthy dose of Daily Double drama, ultimately leading to a decisive victory for Dan Moren, a writer and podcaster from Somerville, Massachusetts. While two contestants swung for the fences and missed, Dan played a more strategic game, culminating in a $0 wager in Final Jeopardy that secured his win.

The game began with a strong showing from returning champion Sarah Gillis, a mortgage loan processor from Asbury Park, New Jersey. However, the tides turned when Michelle Tsai, a tutor originally from Honolulu, Hawai’i, found the Daily Double in the Jeopardy round. Michelle, taking a significant gamble, wagered all of her earnings but unfortunately missed the answer, handing the advantage back to Sarah. Sarah, also unable to capitalize on a Daily Double opportunity in Double Jeopardy, saw her lead slip away.

Dan, however, seized his chance, correctly answering a crucial Daily Double in Double Jeopardy and moving into a commanding position. He entered Final Jeopardy with $17,200, while Michelle trailed with $8,600 and Sarah was left with $0, unable to participate in the final round.

The Final Jeopardy category, “Best New Artist Grammys,” proved tricky for all three contestants. None correctly identified The Beatles as the band who took home the award at the 7th annual Grammy Awards. Dan’s strategic decision to bet nothing ensured his victory regardless of the final outcome, highlighting the importance of smart wagering in “Jeopardy!” Michelle finished in second place with $8,600.

Other notable categories during the game included “Doctored Television,” “Events of 2005,” and “Cities Around the World.”
