Jeopardy! Monday January 6, 2025, Recap, “Matchbox Twenty-One”

Jeopardy! Key Art

Drew Goins, a journalist from Honolulu, Steve Miller, a retired medical transcriptionist from Eugene, and Jonquil Garrick-Reynolds, a theatrical wardrobe technician from Ottawa are back in the second chance tournament.

The first round saw Goins take an early lead, demonstrating a strong grasp of “Historic History,” among other categories. By the first commercial break, he had amassed a considerable $7,800, dwarfing the $2,200 tied scores of Miller and Garrick-Reynolds. While Miller made some headway in Double Jeopardy!, finding the Daily Double in “Alliteration on the Map,” it was Goins who truly dominated the round. He strategically capitalized on two Daily Doubles, further cementing his lead. Garrick-Reynolds, despite some solid gameplay, struggled to catch up.

Going into Final Jeopardy!, the scores stood at $9,800 for Garrick-Reynolds, $18,400 for Miller, and a commanding $33,400 for Goins. The final clue, focused on 21st-century business, proved surprisingly straightforward. All three contestants correctly identified the app in question – Tinder – initially named Matchbox. Goins wagered a conservative $3,401, securing his victory with a final total of $36,801. Miller, wagering boldly, doubled his score to $33,401 for a respectable second place finish.
