Voice actor Brad Grusnick (Aurora, Illinois), education researcher Carole Portas Keane (Jersey City, New Jersey), and returning champion Laura Faddah (Memphis, Tennessee), holder of a five-day winning streak and $58,400, faced off in Thursday’s Jeopardy! match. The categories, ranging from “Bodies of Water” to “The Simpsons Character Who Said…”, offered a typical mix of high and low-brow trivia.
Faddah maintained an early lead, but the game tightened as Grusnick found his footing. A crucial Daily Double about Attila the Hun, however, didn’t go Grusnick’s way, costing him valuable ground. Going into Double Jeopardy, Faddah held a modest advantage.
Double Jeopardy saw Faddah capitalize on a Daily Double about “mediate” and “meditate,” further solidifying her position. Keane, not to be outdone, made a strategic wager on a Daily Double concerning the Gadsden Purchase and Mexican president Santa Anna, significantly boosting her score. Despite these gains, Faddah’s consistent performance and a late surge of correct responses propelled her into Final Jeopardy with a commanding $20,400, followed by Grusnick at $9,200 and Keane with $6,400.
The Final Jeopardy category, “Movies & Their Soundtracks,” presented a seemingly straightforward clue: “Catch it” was a tagline for this film whose iconic soundtrack became one of the bestselling albums of all time. All three contestants correctly identified the 1977 disco classic “Saturday Night Fever.” Faddah’s $600 wager brought her total to $21,000, securing her sixth consecutive victory and increasing her overall winnings to $79,400.
