The late-night guest booking game can be a monotonous affair, but ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! has a genuinely interesting lineup on deck for Monday night. Steve Martin is set to pull double duty, sitting on the couch for a chat before picking up his banjo for the musical performance—a move that immediately elevates the proceedings beyond the standard talk show rhythm.
Martin will be on hand to discuss his new book, “5 Days Out, 2 Days Back,” which should give Kimmel plenty of material to work with, given Martin’s well-documented history as a raconteur. Joining him on the guest list is Zach Cherry, whose deadpan delivery as Dylan on Apple TV+’s Severance has made him a recognizable face. It will be interesting to see how his low-key energy plays against Kimmel’s more traditional hosting style.
The musical segment is where the episode really distinguishes itself. Martin will perform alongside banjo virtuoso Alison Brown, with bluegrass veteran Tim O’Brien also featured.
