Sky Orders a Three-Part Travel Series with the Comedian as the Self-Appointed Ambassador of His Hometown

Sky has commissioned a three-part travel series, “Joe Lycett’s United States of Birmingham,” starring comedian Joe Lycett as he embarks on a journey to visit all the places named Birmingham in North America. Known for his love for his hometown, Lycett takes on the role of its self-appointed ambassador, aiming to put Birmingham “firmly back on the map—in fact, all over the map.”

In this series, Lycett will travel from Canada’s Saskatchewan province to the Deep South of the US, exploring the history and “collective Brummie cultural commonalities” of these places. He will form official “Friendship Agreements” with as many US Birminghams as he can, culminating in the “International Day of Birmingham,” a global event that echoes a similar concept he revealed in his 2022 live show.

Lycett commented “I am delighted to be making this show for Sky which will finally secure me enough money to move to London.”

“Joe Lycett’s United States of Birmingham” reunites Lycett with the creative team behind “Travel Man” on Channel 4. The series will be executive produced by Lycett’s manager, Hannah Chambers, and North One’s Steve Gowans, with Barbara Lee serving as the commissioning editor for Sky.

With Lycett’s passion for his city and his unique brand of comedy, the series promises to offer a humorous and insightful exploration of the various Birminghams across North America.
