Comedian Joel McHale will take the reins as host of “The 1% Club” when the program returns for a second season on FOX. The program, a test of general knowledge, previously aired on Prime Video in the US and Canada, but will move exclusively to FOX for the 2025-26 television season.
McHale, already a familiar face on the network due to his roles in “Animal Control” and “Crime Scene Kitchen,” will bring his trademark humor to the program that challenges contestants with questions based on a scientific survey designed to test the nation’s intelligence. The format, a global success originating in the United Kingdom, presents questions that have a single correct answer, but frequently trigger a range of amusing incorrect responses from participants.
Michael Thorn, President of the FOX Television Network, commented on McHale’s appointment, noting his comedic timing and hosting skills, and expressing confidence that he will elevate the program. Ryan O’Dowd, President of Unscripted at BBC Studios, Los Angeles Productions, echoed this sentiment, stating that McHale’s unpredictable comedic approach will create an exciting experience for viewers.
McHale also expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, noting that he is “1,000,000% excited” to be part of the project. “I love the show and love the game play to the 10???? and guarantee my hair, make up, and wardrobe will look great at least 68% of the time.”
The game tests participants on their ability to think their way through questions that many would get wrong, striving for a spot in the “1% Club,” an informal group of those who have demonstrated they can outwit 99% of the population.
The program is produced by BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions and Magnum Media, with executive producers Ryan O’Dowd, Krystal Whitney, Dean Nabarro, and Andy Auerbach. Wes Kauble serves as the showrunner. The program was originally created by Dean Nabarro and Andy Auerbach at Magnum Media and is distributed by BBC Studios.
The show’s popularity has led to adaptations in 11 international markets, including the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, France, Israel, Spain, Turkey, Mexico, Greece, Ukraine and Hungary.
