Nine months after returning to General Hospital in what he framed as a serious re-entry, Jonathan Jackson is once again checking out of Port Charles. The actor will wrap his run next week, closing the latest chapter for GH legacy character Lucky Spencer.
Jackson’s storyline exit follows Lucky’s unsuccessful bid to reunite with ex-wife Elizabeth Webber, played by longtime cast member Rebecca Herbst. Tuesday’s episode saw Elizabeth reject Lucky’s marriage proposal, prompting the character to admit that Port Charles “isn’t home anymore.”
The latest exit is being positioned as open-ended. GH executive producer Frank Valentini confirmed Jackson’s departure but noted the door remains open for a future return—standard language for a show that has routinely cycled major players on and off its canvas.
Jackson originated the role of Lucky in 1993, stepping into the shoes of Luke and Laura Spencer’s son at just 11 years old. He returned briefly in 2010 and again in 2015 for Anthony Geary’s exit storyline but had said this most recent stint would be “substantial and real.” During the run, Jackson worked opposite several of the soap’s tentpoles, including Maurice Benard, Kate Mansi, and Jeff Kober.
The June 4 rejection marked a turning point for Lucky’s arc. With no romantic reconciliation in sight and emotional baggage piling up, the character will spend the coming days saying his goodbyes before making a quiet exit from the canvas.
Jackson is a three-time Daytime Emmy winner for the role.
General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
