Before they became country music icons, Naomi and Wynonna Judd were just Dianna and Christina, a single mother and her talented daughter trying to make their way in the world. Lifetime’s “The Judd Family: Truth Be Told” is set to explore that journey, beginning this Saturday with the premiere episode, “A Mother’s Smile.”
Beginning in the 1970s, this premiere episode follows Naomi, then Dianna, as she works the night shift at a local hospital, struggling financially as a single mother. It was during this time that she discovered Wynonna’s impressive musical gift – a discovery that would change their lives forever. “A Mother’s Smile” will detail Naomi’s efforts to launch Wynonna’s career while juggling the demands of her job.
The documentary features intimate interviews with family members, including Wynonna, Ashley, and Naomi’s widower, Larry Strickland. Viewers will get a closer look at Naomi’s origins in Kentucky as a teenage mother and hear from close friends and colleagues like Reba McIntire and Don Potter. Featuring rare family footage, photos, unreleased songs, and voicemails, “The Judd Family: Truth Be Told” looks to reveal the complicated story of the Judds’ path to stardom.
“The Judd Family: Truth Be Told” premieres Saturday, May 10, at 8:00 PM ET on Lifetime.
