As Pride Month wraps, JustWatch has delivered a clear snapshot of where queer stories are finding their widest home. In its annual breakdown of LGBTQ+ content across U.S. streaming platforms, the data points to a surprising frontrunner: Kanopy.
The ad-free service, which partners with libraries and universities, accounts for 25% of all LGBTQ+ films and series tracked by JustWatch, giving it the edge over more mainstream players. Hoopla comes in second with 17.3%, followed by Prime Video (15.6%), Dekkoo (9.4%) and Philo (9.1%).
JustWatch’s review covers 1,739 titles featuring LGBTQ+ characters or narratives, drawn from its extensive content database. The list isn’t simply about quantity. It also includes engagement metrics to spotlight the most-watched queer content of the past year.
Anatomy of a Fall, available on Hulu and Kanopy, emerged as the most-watched LGBTQ+ film. On the TV side, Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building claimed the top spot, with other series like Interview with the Vampire, Schitt’s Creek, The Acolyte, and Baby Reindeer also pulling strong audience interest.
Other high-performing films included Saltburn, American Fiction, Challengers, and I Saw the TV Glow, a nod to the growing diversity in how LGBTQ+ stories are told across genres.
The annual Pride Month report from JustWatch has become a useful tool in tracking not just availability but visibility. While larger platforms like Netflix and Max boast original LGBTQ+ programming, Kanopy and Hoopla’s dominance highlights a strong demand for curated, often under-the-radar titles that cater directly to niche or academic audiences.
JustWatch continues to operate as a global streaming guide, offering users real-time information about where to legally watch movies and TV shows across platforms.
