Kevin Costner’s ambitious Western saga, “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1”, will debut on the streaming platform Max on 23 August. The project hails from New Line Cinema and Territory Pictures and continues Costner’s exploration of Civil War-era America, a theme he previously explored with his directorial debut, “Dances with Wolves” (1990), which garnered seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
“Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” spans the four-year duration of the American Civil War, from 1861 to 1865. The story is told through the lens of diverse characters, all grappling with what it means to be part of a divided United States.
Costner leads an ensemble cast that includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, Abbey Lee, Will Patton, Jena Malone, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, and Luke Wilson, among others. It marks Costner’s return to the director’s chair after a nearly 20-year hiatus, following his critically acclaimed film “Open Range” (2003).
The film is produced by Costner alongside Howard Kaplan and Mark Gillard, with executive producers Danny Peykoff, Robert Scannell, Armyan Bernstein, Charlie Lyons, Barry Berg, and Rod Lake. The screenplay is by Jon Baird and Kevin Costner, based on a story by Jon Baird, Kevin Costner, and Mark Kasdan.
