Kids Baking Championship Key Art

On Monday’s “Kids Baking Championship: Amazing Animals,” the cuteness factor explodes as our pint-sized pastry prodigies tackle the challenge of building edible animal houses. Think gingerbread houses, but with more fur (the edible kind, of course).

Duff Goldman and Kardea Brown, never ones to shy away from a sugary spectacle, have tasked the young bakers with constructing cookie-based abodes for their chosen critters. The kids have free rein on cookie type and flavor, so expect a menagerie of architectural styles, from classic chocolate chip bungalows to funky oatmeal raisin ranches.

As always, Duff offers his wisdom, dispensing crucial advice on the structural engineering of cookie construction (apparently, there’s a right and a wrong way to glue frosting). But it’s not all walls and roofs; the bakers also need to whip up a batch of “haystack” cookies and a complementary dipping sauce “water trough.” Because even cookie animals need refreshments.

With the grand prize – a full set of Food Network bakeware, a feature in Food Network Magazine, and a cool $10,000 – on the line, the competition is fierce.

“Kids Baking Championship: Amazing Animals” airs Mondays at 8:00 PM ET/PT on Food Network.
