Elvis, Assassination Plots, and Black Market Body Parts: Netflix’s “Kings of Tupelo” Promises a Bizarre True Crime Ride

Kings of Tupelo Key Art

Netflix’s upcoming true-crime series, “The Kings of Tupelo: A Southern Crime Saga,” appears to be a truly strange brew. Set against the backdrop of Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis Presley’s birthplace, this three-part documentary digs into a local feud that spirals into an internet conspiracy theory featuring an Elvis impersonator and culminates in a presidential assassination attempt. If that weren’t enough, black market body parts are also somehow involved. Consider my curiosity officially piqued.

Originating from Tupelo, Mississippi, the birthplace of Elvis Presley, the story at the center of “The Kings of Tupelo” seems far from a typical true-crime narrative. While details surrounding the central feud remain under wraps, the series hints at an escalating conflict involving black market body parts and an online conspiracy that spirals into a plot against the US President.

The series is helmed by Chapman Way and Maclain Way, the acclaimed directors of “Wild Wild Country” and several “Untold” documentaries. Known for their immersive storytelling and ability to unearth the bizarre within the ordinary, the Way brothers are well-suited to tackle this unusual Tupelo tale. Their previous work suggests “The Kings of Tupelo” will be a meticulously crafted and visually engaging exploration of a story that stretches the boundaries of believability.

“The Kings of Tupelo: A Southern Crime Saga” premieres Wednesday, December 11, 2024, on Netflix.
