BAFTA-winning actress Mia McKenna-Bruce (How To Have Sex) will lead the cast of The Lady, a new four-part drama written by Debbie O’Malley (Payback, Humans) and produced by Left Bank Pictures (The Crown) for BritBox and ITV. She will play former royal aide Jane Andrews.
Here’s the Lowdown: The drama, based on true events but partly fictionalized, tells the story of Jane Andrews, who rose from a working-class background to become the Duchess of York’s dresser at Buckingham Palace. Natalie Dormer (Game Of Thrones) will play Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and Ed Speleers (Outlander) will portray Thomas Cressman, Andrews’ love interest.
What This Means Now: The Lady focuses on the rise and downfall of Andrews, who eventually lost her royal position and was later convicted of murder. The series also features a strong supporting cast, including Philip Glenister, Claire Skinner and Laura Aikman.
The Bigger Picture: The series, commissioned by BritBox and ITV, charts Andrews’ journey from her humble beginnings to the highest social circles and the subsequent events that led to her conviction. Lee Haven Jones (The Feast) will direct. Sony Pictures Television will handle international distribution. The series will air on Britbox in the US and Canada. It will also be available in the UK on ITV1, STV, ITVX and STV Player.
