Lakota Dancer Returns to Roots in “Independent Lens: Without Arrows”

Independent Lens Art

This time PBS’s “Independent Lens”, the focus turns to a Lakota dancer returning to his reservation after over a decade away. Airing Monday, January 13, 2025, at 10:00 PM, the film follows his attempt to reconnect with his heritage and continue his family’s traditions.

This isn’t just a story about dance; it’s about the pull of one’s roots. The dancer’s journey back to the reservation is a story many can relate to, that almost magnetic draw to where you came from, even after years of absence. The 90-minute documentary, the ninth installment of “Independent Lens’s” 26th season, sets out to examine the challenges of cultural identity in a rapidly changing world. What does it mean to be Lakota in the 21st century? How does one balance tradition with modernity? “Without Arrows” takes aim at these questions, through the lens of one man’s personal experience.
