Let’s be honest, “Later… with Jools Holland” can be a mixed bag. But the upcoming November 9 episode has piqued even my jaded interest, thanks to a booking that feels genuinely exciting: the Pixies. They’re slated to perform tracks from their tenth studio album, “The Night The Zombies Came,” and if their recent live shows are anything to go by, it should be a raucous affair. Let’s just hope Black Francis is feeling articulate that evening.
Sharing the stage is Katy J Pearson, whose forthcoming third album, “Someday, Now,” has been generating some buzz. I confess I’m not intimately familiar with her work, but I’m open to being pleasantly surprised. Also on the lineup is classical composer Max Richter, whose presence offers a welcome dose of sophistication alongside the indie rock offerings. And then there’s rapper Pozer, representing a younger generation.
Also making an appearance is Scottish singer-songwriter Jacob Alon, performing their debut single, “Fairy in a Bottle.” I haven’t had the chance to dive into their catalog yet, but the single’s title hints at a certain whimsicality.
