Law & Order: Special Victims Unit “Deductible” (NBC, Thursday, January 30, 2025)

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Key Art

This week’s Law & Order: SVU, titled “Deductible,” offers a ripped-from-the-headlines case guaranteed to exploit our collective anxieties about urban safety. When a young man reports his sister missing after she fails to return home from work, Benson and Carisi find themselves staring down a particularly nasty barrel. Their initial investigation uncovers an assault, but the circumstances point towards a potential setup, suggesting a far more complicated and sinister plot than a random attack.

The case takes on additional complexities when it emerges that the victim may have been involved in something shady herself. As Benson and Carisi dig deeper, they uncover a web of secrets and lies, forcing them to question everyone involved. Is this a simple mugging gone wrong, a targeted attack, or something far more elaborate? And what exactly was the victim involved in that might have made her a target?

Expect the usual mix of grim procedural elements, and the requisite uncomfortable scenes designed to highlight the vulnerabilities of women in the city.

Law & Order: SVU airs Thursday at 9:00 PM on NBC.
