Adult Swim’s stylish sci-fi anime “Lazarus” continues its high-stakes narrative this weekend. Set in the gleaming, yet potentially deceptive, future of 2052, the series follows a special task force assembled to find Dr. Skinner, the creator of a seemingly miraculous cure-all drug, Hapuna, who vanished three years after its release. The premiere set the stage; now, the chase begins in earnest.
In the second episode, “Life in the Fast Lane,” the team gets its first real break. Genius hacker Eleina uncovers a potential lead on Skinner’s whereabouts, prompting the Lazarus unit to split into two groups for investigation. This division, a classic tactical move, inevitably increases the risk. Sure enough, both teams reportedly run into trouble, encountering gunfire during their pursuit.
“Lazarus,” with its slick animation and direction from Shinichirō Watanabe (of “Cowboy Bebop” fame), excels at kinetic sequences. The hunt accelerates Saturday night (technically Sunday morning) at 12:00 AM ET on Adult Swim.
