Will Arnett’s soothing-yet-sarcastic voice is back, returning to oversee the plastic brick-based festivities of “LEGO Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular.” This two-night holiday special, airing Tuesday, December 10th and Wednesday, December 11th at 8 PM on FOX, throws a festive wrench into the usual “Masters” formula. Forget cutthroat competition between seasoned builders—this time, it’s all about celebrities, fan favorites, and the spirit of giving.
Four former contestants – Christine Blandino, Stephen Joo, Aaron Newman, and Corey D. Samuels – are paired with celebrities Sophia Bush, Holly Robinson Peete, Eric McCormack, and Lil Rel Howery, respectively. Each team will face off in holiday-themed building challenges, vying for a $10,000 prize for their designated charity. Is this the “Celebrity Apprentice” of brick-building? Maybe, but with less shouting, more glitter, and significantly improved hairpieces.
Night one kicks off with a challenge tied to a holiday classic: “Home Alone.” The teams must construct elaborate holiday houses, not just aesthetically pleasing, but also equipped with booby traps fit to foil even the wettest of bandits. One can only hope for miniature Kevin McCallister minifigures and tiny paint cans swinging from the rafters.
The second challenge, presumably airing on night two, involves reimagining Santa’s reindeer. With Rudolph taking a much-needed vacation (or perhaps joining the witness protection program), the teams must devise and construct unique replacements to pull Santa’s sleigh. Expect flying robotic squirrels, genetically modified gingerbread men, and possibly even a team of hamsters on tiny treadmills.
While the charitable aspect adds a warm fuzzy feeling to the proceedings, the real question is whether the celebrity element will enhance or hinder the creativity. Will the celebrities be active participants or simply provide comic relief while the veteran builders do the heavy lifting? Only time, and several buckets of LEGOs, will tell.
Tune in to FOX on Tuesday, December 10th at 8 PM for the premiere of “LEGO Masters: Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular.”
