Lena Dunham’s Catherine Called Birdy First Look from Prime Video
Billie Piper and Bella Ramsay star in the new film, which will be released later this year and is set in 1290.
Catherine Called Birdy, an Amazon Original film written and directed by Lena Dunham, will be released on the streaming platform later this year, according to Prime Video.
Catherine Called Birdy stars Billie Piper (Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Doctor Who), Andrew Scott (Fleabag, Sherlock, The Pursuit Of Love), Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) and Joe Alwyn (Conversations With Friends, The Favourite).
It will debut on Prime Video on October 7, 2022.
The year? 1290. Lady Catherine (also known as Birdy) is the youngest child of Lord Rollo and Lady Aislinn in the Medieval English village of Stonebridge. Stonebridge Manor is her playground, a house that, like the family, has seen better days.
Rollo, who is both poor and greedy, sees his daughter as a way out of poverty by marrying her off to a wealthy man for money and land. But, like all great teen heroines, Birdy is spirited, clever, and adventurous, and she’s ready to turn down any suitor who comes calling in increasingly inventive ways.
Her defiance, imagination, and strong belief in her own right to independence put her at odds with her parents. When the most vile of all the suitors arrives, they are put to the ultimate test of their love for their daughter.
Catherine Called Birdy is based on the book by Karen Cushman.
