The Paramount+ original series Lioness has been renewed for a second season, with production currently taking place in Texas. The renewal comes after a successful first season that debuted in July 2023 and became the streamer’s most-watched global premiere at launch.
Created by Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone, Lioness is an espionage thriller inspired by an actual US military program. The series follows Zoe Saldaña as Joe, a CIA operative struggling to balance her personal and professional lives, who goes undercover to infiltrate a terrorist organization.
The first season garnered strong viewership and acclaim for its high-stakes narrative and stellar performances. Executive Vice President of Programming for Paramount+, Jeff Grossman, praised the show’s global appeal and the powerhouse performances of its lead actors.
“Our Paramount+ audience resoundingly has joined forces in support of Lioness’ gripping, global story and the powerhouse performances from Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, and Nicole Kidman,” Grossman said. “We cannot wait to see more of the heart-stopping suspense and action that Taylor Sheridan and the incredibly talented team deliver in its second season.”
The series also boasts a star-studded cast, including Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, Michael Kelly, Morgan Freeman, and Nicole Kidman, who also serves as an executive producer.
With production currently underway, the second season of Lioness is expected to premiere in autumn 2024.
