It’s Thanksgiving. You’ve likely got a bird thawing, some questionable relatives en route, and, oh yeah, football. And if you’re a fan of either the Detroit Lions or Chicago Bears, you’ve likely got indigestion already brewing. These two NFC North rivals meet again on Turkey Day, which means the Lions will inevitably try to shake off their historical holiday woes.
This Thursday, November 28, CBS will air the game live from Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, at 12:30 PM. While both teams might be looking to simply enjoy a tryptophan-induced nap by kickoff, the stakes are actually reasonably high. This NFC North showdown could have significant playoff implications, particularly if the Lions want to claw their way into contention.
The Lions’ Thanksgiving track record is, to put it mildly, less than stellar. Their history is littered with holiday defeats, a recurring nightmare played out on national television. Adding insult to injury, a sizable chunk of these Thanksgiving losses have come courtesy of the Bears. Eight times, to be precise, the Lions have offered themselves as a sacrificial Thanksgiving offering to their Windy City rivals.
Detroit enters this matchup carrying the weight of a seven-game Thanksgiving losing streak, a tradition almost as predictable as pumpkin pie. Let’s see if they can finally give their long-suffering fans something besides heartburn to be thankful for. Can they turn the tables on their division rivals and finally serve up a Thanksgiving victory? Or will history repeat itself, with the Lions once again playing the role of the hapless turkey?
Tune in to CBS at 12:30 PM on Thursday, November 28, 2024 to find out.
