Channel 5’s Live: Winter on the Farm isn’t content with merely showing us the usual muddy fields of the UK. In this second episode, the series trades British drizzle for Finnish frost, offering viewers a glimpse into a world of sub-zero agriculture. Rob and Dave Nicholson, the show’s resident farming brothers, pack their warmest wellies and head north to discover how Finnish farmers tackle the unique challenges of a Nordic winter. Expect snow, innovative farming techniques, and probably some bewildered reindeer.
Back on slightly more familiar terrain, Yorkshire chef Tim Bilton shines a light on the unsung heroes of the British high street — the butchers, bakers, and fishmongers who keep our pantries stocked. While the supermarkets battle for our attention (and our pounds), Bilton reminds us that quality and local sourcing still have a vital place on our shopping lists.
Meanwhile, closer to home but no less intriguing, young Orkney farmer Lilly prepares for tupping season. Her journey to the local mart to secure a suitable ram for her flock promises a mix of rural tradition and, hopefully, some ovine matchmaking magic. Let’s just hope she doesn’t get fleeced in the process.
